Zell am See

Beschreibung Bilder Fakten
Zell am See has an asset the other austian competitors can not compete with. It is a lakeside town with a charming old center and since a tunnel takes through traffic to Schüttdorf it is less plagued by traffic. The preferred use of transportation is a car, allowing to visit Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Bad-Gastein –Bad Hofgastein, Schladming, Obertauern and Wagrain.
Situated deeply in the valley of Prinzgau and the Hohe Tauern, a mountainous region with numerous tops standing over 3,000 m (9,842 ft) tall. Built between the waterfront of Lake Zell and the Schmittenhöhe, Zell and the neighbouring Kaprun create a large all-year resort.
Zell am See is one of the most significant Austrian ski resorts. Its three parts, the all year glacial resort Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun, the Maiskogel in Kaprun, and the Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See open an area of 130 km (81 miles) of pistes and 54 lift systems. Although not combined via lifts, this distance is comfortably passable with the constantly running ski-buses, and the slopes also go all the way down into the villages, so each one can easily be reached via ski.

Located about 83 km from Salzburg, Zell am See is best reached by car. Via the german boarder village of Bad Reichenhall you arrive in Lofer from where it is only a short distance before you arrive in Zell am See after a total travel time of approximately 1 hour 40 minutes.
