Stowe

Description Pictures Facts
Some refer to Stowe as the granddaddy of all ski resorts. A description that is not so hard to understand if you have a look at the quality skiing and riding in this resort. Stowe has something for all levels of family abilities. The area has used this past year to transform its lift system for 2006/07, unveiling a new standing gondola to shuttle guests between Mount Mansfield and its "sister" mountain, Spruce Peak. The new inter-mountain transfer lift, scheduled to open in December 2006, will provide transportation to and from the slopes at the bases of Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak - formally linking the two. From top-to-bottom runs with groomed cruisers to bump runs to some truly fine glade skiing, Stowe has it all and an average snowfall of 28 ft (850 cm) to boot.

Finding Stowe is an easy task. Since the ski area shares its name with the town, there's no confusion about where you're headed, and the "Ski capital of the East" is an easy, enjoyable trip from just about anywhere. Located in north-central Vermont, Stowe’s 40 minutes from Vermont's largest airport, 15 minutes from Interstate 89, and 15 minutes from the train station. Clear signs, light traffic, well-maintained roads, and pretty countryside make it a pleasant drive from the airport or other northeastern locations. Traveling by car or bus visitors from the north, south, east, or west can take major interstates or highways almost to Stowe's doorstep.
