The second most popular destination in Austria (after the capital Vienna), Saalbach and Hinterglemm have some of the country`s most exciting skiing and were the location for the 1991 Alpine World Championships.
Especially popular with the Dutch and German markets, Saalbach is marginally the larger (and louder) of the two villages, originally 4 km (two and a half miles) apart, which have grown so much that they now almost meet in the middle! They are neighbours in the picturesque Glemmtal Valley, a `dead end` valley which offers skiing on all sides and numerous access points to the slopes.
The altitude range is quite low and, given that many of the slopes are usually sunny, this could be detrimental, but fortunately local climatic conditions (and a good deal of snow making) help to maintain cover. All building in the area is in keeping with traditional architectural design (commonly known as `Tyrolean` chalet style`, although this is the neighbouring province of Salzburgerland).
Powder snow and Freeride Fun - our pistes are perfectly groomed and in top condition all Winter long! With up-to-date snow cannons the Winter season is secured!
To make every single day of your holiday a pure Skiers´ delight we offer 200 km (124 miles) from beginners´slopes to challenging pistes with runs right to the village. Extra wide carving-pistes, 40 cosy huts, 55 comfortable cable cars and lifts as well as several „hot spots“ for example ungroomed Moguls, Fun Park, GS Race Course and a flood-lit slope make your holiday to an unforgettable experience.
Located about 9 2km from Salzburg, Saalbach-Hinterglemm is best reached by car. Via the german boarder village of Bad Reichenhall you arrive in Lofer from where it is only a short distance before you arrive in Saalbach-Hinterglemm after a total travel time of just under 2 hours.
