Popular Morzine is one of the closest major French resorts to the gateway city of Geneva. It is in the middle of one of the most extensive ski regions in the Alps, the Portes du Soleil. This is a ski circus that connects 15 resorts in France and Switzerland. In addition to Morzine on the French side of the border are Avoriaz, Les Gets, Montriond, St.-Jean d'Aulps, Abondance, and La Chapelle. The Swiss resorts are Planachaux, Champery, Les Crosets, Val-d'Illiez, Champoussin, Morgins, Chatel and Torgon.
Between lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, at the foot of the Dents Blanches and the Dents du Midi, Portes du Soleil offers all ski enthusiasts an almost unlimited ski area. Ski slopes for all levels of skiing, panoramic views to take your breath away, whether you choose the peaks of “Mossettes” or “Chamossière”, the forest paths of the Lindarets or Morgins, everybody will find their own particular corner of paradise, somewhere in the 650 km of marked ski runs in the biggest ski area in the world.
The Morzine-Avoriaz Sector is comprised of 70 km of ski runs between 1,000 and 2,466 meters in altitude. This is paradise for those liking the more modern forms of snow sports, as there are 2 snowparks and the new "Biotop" (the first 100% ecological winter forest park), a half pipe, a "canyon" slope and a new boarder slope.
Located about 90 km from Geneva Airport, Morzine can either be accessed by using public transportation or by car. If you decide to take the car from Geneva you need to take the A1/E25 across the boarder to France. Driving on the E25 towards Chamonix-Mont-Blanc you need to take the exit 19 labeled “Clauses-Centre, Flaine, C.R. des Douanes” once you have passed close to Bonneville and Scionzier. From there always head towards Morzine, where you should arrive after an estimated travel time of 1 hour 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can contact french federal railway through www.sncf.fr.
