Grindelwald

Description Pictures Facts
Grindelwald offers many world-famous highlights: the North Face of the Eiger, the Jungfraujoch “Top of Europe”, the longest glacier in the Alps, a UNESCO Natural World Heritage and much more. The tourist attractions are many and varied, with something for everyone. A simple ride in a cable-car becomes an experience in Grindelwald!
Grindelwald is one of the twelve "Best of the Alps" destinations. Twelve classic Alpine resorts have joined forces to establish the “Best of the Alps” group. Twelve resorts, all of them bearing a resounding name. All of them well known as established tourist destinations. Popular because of the way their infrastructure has evolved, their close, because of their natural relationship to the surrounding areas, the perfect mixture between established tradition and carefully nurtured progress.
The hospitable Eiger village Grindelwald lies nestled in an interesting and unspoilt region in the Swiss Alps, namely the Bernese Oberland. The impressive backdrop of world-famous snow-capped mountains such as the Wetterhorn, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are like a stage setting for Grindelwald.
The 15 km-long, prepared run is guaranteed to give unspoilt tobogganing fun. The world’s longest toboggan run takes you from the Faulhorn at 2,600 m down to Grindelwald. After the approx. 2 1⁄2 hour walk up from First to the Faulhorn, one can toboggan all the way back down to Grindelwald through the scenic wintery landscape.
An excursion into the glacier world of Switzerland’s high Alps is an unforgettable experience. Jungfraujoch is the highest railway station in Europe at 3,454 m. UNESCO World Natural Heritage Jungfrau–Aletsch–Bietschhorn: On December 13th, 2001 the UNESCO Natural Heritage Committee took the area around the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau and Aletsch Glacier up on the world heritage list. The magnificent high Alpin scenery fullfills the required attributes of “exceptional, outstanding and universal” in a particular way.

Located 145 km from Zurich and 230 km from Geneva Grindelwald can easily be reached using either a car or public transportation. If you go by car you take the expressway to Bern and continue on the well built “A” road via Interlaken to Grindelwald. The travel time from Geneva would be approximately 2 hours 50 minutes while the travel time from Zurich would be around 2 hours 20 minutes. If you decide to take the train, swiss federal railway will take you from Geneva to Grindelwald in 3 hours 40 minutes and from Zurich to Grindelwald in 2 hours 50 minutes. Either way you will have to change in Interlaken and possibly in Bern.
