If atmosphere is what you are looking for, then Courmayeur is your place to be. It is oozing with it. Restaurants, bars and little boutiques selling chic Italian clothes are to be discovered along the main street. With the resort on one side of the aosta valley and the slopes in the other side, a cable car takes you across the valley up to the skiing. Skiing is as you like it. Lots of easy stuff for cruisers, but some high mountain and bumpy black for better skiers. The majority of the slopes are best suited to decent intermediate skiers; and there are selected areas for very good skiers to challenge their abilities. For example the "high mountain ski areas", which challenges both skills and stamina.
The Italian way of doing things, the restaurants, the skiing and the beautiful mountain scenery make skiing an unforgettable experience. Even if the lifts don’t close at lunchtime, it would be better for most people, as long lunches and watching people is equally as important as skiing. If you can tear yourself away from the relaxed atmosphere of Chercrouit then you can take the cable car from nearby La Palud up to Punta Helbronner, from where you can chose to ski the spectacular Vallee Blanche (make sure the Mont Blanc tunnel is open for your return) or come back towards Courmayeur for some challenging off piste.
While waiting for the cable car you will have the possibilities to experience some of the après ski. From the chic and more expensive restaurant to the charming pizzeria, Courmayeur offers something to suit all tastes and pockets.
The cheapest and quickest way to travel to Courmayeur ski resort is to first fly to Geneva or Turin. The resort is 95 miles (1.5 hours) from Turin, 78 miles (2 hours) from Geneva, Switzerland, via the Mont Blanc tunnel, and 136 miles (2.5 hours) from Milan, Italy. Train and bus services connect Milan and Turin with Courmayeur.
