Conveniently located between Queenstown and Wanaka, Cardrona is a high mountain renowned among skiers and boarders for inspiring terrain and dry natural snow. With 320 hectares of wide undulating trails, open slopes, steep chutes and awesome terrain parks, there’s something here for everyone. A giant clock tower, nice eating areas and special facilities for children make for an easy, happy day on the hill for the whole family.
A wide area of the mountain is serviced by chair lifts so access is easy and queues are rare. Its three basins offer wide-open spaces and a mix of terrain that's suitable for snowboarders and skiers of all abilities. On mountain facilities includes five cafeteria, shop, hire facilities and a workshop. Unlike many other New Zealand ski resorts, you can stay on the mountain at Cardrona. There are 15 on-mountain apartments that sleep two-to-ten people.
Cardrona has an established reputation as a family oriented field and also has steep runs that attract expert skiers. Dedicated children’s facilities including a licensed childcare and ski centre that caters for children from 3 months to 12 years. The children’s centre runs Skiwee programmes every week of the season. And even start your lessons 5 minutes after the kids so you are not trying to be in two places at once!
Over 20 national and international skiing and snowboarding events are held here each year. With a wide range of accommodation options available in both Queenstown and Wanaka a great day of skiing is only a short drive away.
Located just 34 km from Wanaka and 58 km from Queenstown, Cardrona is best accessed by using a car. Despite being further away, you might decide to fly to Queenstown as there are several flights a week from Australia to Queenstown. If you travel within New Zealand, Wanaka is serviced by Air New Zealand and Queenstown by Air New Zealand and Qantas. If driving the ski field roads doesn’t appeal or you’re without your own transport, a number of shuttle buses operate out of Wanaka and Queenstown to Cardrona Alpine Resort.
