Kafue National Park

Beschreibung
Kafue National Park is Zambia’s largest and the continent’s second largest national park. The park covers an area of more than 22’000 km2, comparable to the size of Wales, and hosts over 50 different species of animals.

Named after the Kafue River, it was established in 1924, after the British Colonial Government had moved the natives – the Nkoya People – from their traditional hunting grounds into the Mumbwa District. The park consists of a vast variety of habitats. Whereas Miombo woodland is found across the park, it consists of a vast variety of habitats, from the Busanga Swamps and the Busanga Plains in the north over the Nanzhila Plains to the Ngoma Teak Forest as well as the Itezhi-Tezhi Dam in the south.
