The National Park Brijuni is not far from Fažana (about 60 km from Motovun) in the south-west of Istria. The National Park Brijuni is a group of protected islands with beautifully preserved natural and cultural heritage which dates back to the earliest times.
The most interesting group of small islands situated along the western Istrian coast is the group of fourteen Brijuni islands northwest from Pula. Their total area is 7.3 square kilometers. Brijuni national park encompasses these islands as well as the surrounding sea. Total area of the Park is 36.3 square kilometers. The climate is northern mediterranean.
There are many landscape parks with wide open pastures and broad meadows, scenery rather extraordinary and in fact quite uncommon for this part of the Adriatic coast. Rich cultural heritage deriving from ancient times along with the historical significance regarding Josip Broz Tito's residence here on the island were equally important reasons for proclamation of this National Park. Almost all the important historical monuments are on the Great Brion.
2/5 of the total area of the Veliki Brijun are landscape parks, pastures and meadows. There are not any parks on the small islands. There are some parks on the Small Brion (Mali Brijun) - 20 acres of land and somewhat on Vangi - 2 1 acres of land.
