With the Shire River as its border, Liwonde National Park could well be Malawi’s best. Well managed, stocked with large numbers of interesting animals and with beautiful scenery, this park should not be missed. You can drive your own vehicle into the park. You are guaranteed to see hippos and crocodiles. Cats are more difficult, there are often rumors of lion, but usually if they're seen they are at the far eastern end of the park where none of the game drives get to. However, it's the sort of park where one day you can see nothing one day and everything the next. During the rains it is very difficult to see much at all.
