The Srebarna Nature Reserve is a freshwater lake next to the Danube covering over 600 ha. It is the breeding ground of nearly 100 species of endangered birds. During the winter, approximately 80 other bird species migrate and take refuge. The Dalmatian pelican, great egret, night heron, purple heron, glossy ibis and white spoonbill are the most interesting birds of the region.
