Mnemba Island

|
Scuba diving around Mnemba Island is, in no uncertain terms, spectacular. The coral reef surrounding the island is the finest in Zanzibar. The ocean floor goes as deep as 800 metres relatively close to shore. Offshore waters are rich in large game fish like marlin, barracuda and shark. It is on the whale migration route at the end of August/September and whale sharks can be seen from December to April. Mnemba is a circular reef, with aquarium conditions on the inside and some good wall-diving on the outer. Diving here is a year-round event, with reasonably good conditions to be found on the atoll under almost all weather conditions. Visibilities of 20 to 40 metres are the norm. Turtles, dolphins, whale sharks and pilot whales are regularly seen here.
