Gili Meno

Description Pictures Facts
Gili Meno, is located in the middle of the Gili islands. Meno Wall in the West of Gili Meno goes down to 18m. It offers a lot of small coral fish like lionfish, soldier fish, gobies, crabs and a lot of wart slugs and nudibranches coming out of hiding. It is also called Turtle Heaven because of the many resident hawksbill and green turtles.

If you like beautiful coral sites then Simon’s Reef is a place you will have to visit. Located in easy reaching distance between Gili Meno and Gili Air is this marvellous coral site with several heads and seamounts. The coral growth is sheer mind boggling. Acropora (staghorn and table), antler corals, star and brain corals, cabbage, elephant-ear and leather corals, plate corals, gorgonians and anemones to name but a few. Sounds like a perfect home for snappers and sweetlips, angelfish, parrotfish, triggerfish, tunas, trevallies and barracudas. During some moon phases currents can get quite strong, so be aware!

A bit further north of Simon’s Reef is Takat Malang. Similar to Simon’s Reef you will a combination of countless hard and soft corals. While Takat Malang offers everything that Simon’s Reef has to offer, it has a bonus that might propel it past the beauty of Simon’s Reef: that of the fascinating topography, snaking between the coral takats. But judge for yourself.
