The annual Maui Film Festival, held at the luxurious Wailea Resort, offers film and digital cinema premières and a handful of filmmakers' panels, while social events and galas help keep up the glamour.
The festival prides itself on its "quality over quantity" programming philosophy, and the unique state-of-the-art under-the-stars venues at which many of the films are presented. These include the 2500+ seat, 50-foot wide screen, Dolby Digital-equipped Celestial Cinema, the oceanside late-night SandDance Theater and the new up-on-the-roof Maui Digital SkyDome.
The festival also presents the Silversword Lifetime Achievement Award each year in honour of a film artist's creativity and imagination.
