Runners of all abilities can choose from the 26.2 mile Volcano Marathon, 10-mile Rim Run, 5-mile Kilauea Caldera Run or 5-mile Kilauea Caldera Walk during the Kilauea Volcano Runs, held at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

The Volcano Marathon covers lava fields in the Ka'u Desert and 1000 feet changes in elevation. The time allowed to finish the race is 7 hours and 30 minutes and no walkers are allowed. The record time was set by Wes Kessenich in 1991, who finished in 2 hours 56 minutes and 18 seconds.
