Hawaii International Film Festival
When: 9 - 19 Oct 2008 (annual)
Where: Hawaii
The state-wide Hawaii International Film Festival screens Hawaiian and international premières on six Hawaiian islands. Furthering cultural exchange between the US and the Pacific Rim, the festival usually has an East-meets-West line-up of movies, and includes workshops and award presentations.

Founded in 1981, the festival began as a small series of screenings. Since then it has grown to encompass events all over the islands and audiences of around 65,000. Every year, it screens 100 or so features, shorts and documentaries from all over the world. American and Asian movies predominate, but European filmmaking is not excluded. Festival audiences tend to be equally multicultural.

Visitors can either spend the festival on one island, or combine a love of film with a spot of island-hopping. Participating cinemas include those in Honolulu on Oahu, cinemas in Hawaii (Big Island), and a few of the neighbouring islands.

The festival website publishes full details of this year's programme as soon as they are available.
