Christmas kicks off properly in Newport when the tree at Bowen's Wharf is lit and Santa arrives to take requests. Carol-singing and horse-and-carriage rides add to the Yuletide fun.
This year festivities commence at 4.30pm, with the lighting ceremony at 6pm. Many restaurants and shops at Bowen's Wharf open before, during and after the ceremony, so you can grab a bite to eat and do some Christmas shopping.
