The most northerly Highland Games in Scotland's mainland calendar, the Caithness Highland Games take place in the village known as the end of mainland UK, John O'Groats. On show are the usual "heavy" events as well as solo piping and Highland dancing.
Joining the traditional "heavy" sports, where large men in tartan sweat profusely as they hurl large objects as far as they can - shots (which are putt), hammers (which are thrown) and cabers (which are tossed) - is the 112 Stone Tug-O-War, which presumably is for teams collectively weighing no less than 112 stones! Cycling, children's races and foot racing complete the sporting fixtures.
For the more artistically inclined there are the dazzling displays of Scottish dancing, as well as solo bagpiping.
