Held on the banks of Loch Lomond at Balloch Castle Country Park - one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland - the Balloch Loch Lomond Highland Games offer a slice of Highland life.

All the traditional events are on show, including the "heavy" sports events, Scottish dancing and both solo and team bagpiping.

The "heavy" events - the shot putt, hammer throwing and caber tossing - feature large men in tartan sweating profusely as they hurl large objects as far as they can. For teams of heavies there is a five-a-side tug-of-war competition.

in addition to the track and field, on the sporting side are the official SGA World Heavyweight Championships as well as wrestling (the 12st 7lb Scottish backhold and the Cumberland-style British championships), the Scottish 80 metres and British 200 metres running championships.
