The Scottish town of Ballater has, since 1989, celebrated its connection with Queen Victoria by devoting a week in early August to various festivities for the whole family. Collectively entitled Ballater Victoria Week, this includes the Ballater Highland Games on the final Saturday.
Typical activities include kids' hilltop safaris, a grand parade of vintage vehicles and floats, performances by local pipe bands, face-painting, puppet shows and storytelling. A Ghoulies & Ghosties Tour, an "It's A Knockout" competition, several traditional ceilidhs and a funfair keep everyone busy.
