Established in 1970, the Molodist Kiev International Film Festival both supports young filmmakers and highlights the Ukrainian film industry. Visits by world-famous guests help to put the spotlight on Eastern European cinema.
Molodist means "youth" in Ukrainian, and the films screened illustrate new cinematic trends. Young directors of both shorts and features from around the world compete in the categories of student and first professional film.
Apart from the competition, the festival features panoramas of Ukrainian and Eastern European cinema, as well as retrospectives of film schools and prominent directors - over 250 screenings altogether.
International guests and jury members are invited each year - stars like Liv Ulmann, Vincent Perez and Sean Connery. 2008's venue is Kyiv Cinema with other locations outside Kiev also screening films.
Please visit the festival website for full details of the programme.
