The Istanbul Film Festival attracts 85,000 visitors every year with a programme covering everything from art, culture and feature films to literature, music and theatre.

Films include brand-new productions as well as unforgettable classics and an elite selection of masterpieces by world-famous cinema gurus. In total there are 235 screenings in 20 different categories. In 2007 films included The Good German, Steven Soderbergh's production featuring George Clooney and Cate Blanchett, and George Hickenlooper's Factory Girl, with Sienna Miller and Guy Pearce.

Among the list of Oscar winners was Pan's Labyrinth, a masterpiece by Guillermo del Toro that portrays the Spanish Civil War as seen through the eyes of a little girl.
