The Gurten Festival is one of Switzerland's best music events, taking place in enchanting countryside - the beautiful, wooded Gurten Hill in the largest park in Bern. Highlights in 2008 include Kaiser Chiefs, Chemical Brothers and N.E.R.D..
The event first took place in 1977 as a folk festival. During the Nineties it diversified musically and increased steadily in popularity, and now attracts tens of thousands of fans every year. There are restaurants that serve until late into the night, as well as dance tents and several bars.
It is possible to camp at the site, but only in small tents, as space is limited. When you just need to relax, head for the Chill Out Bar, where you can enjoy a drink and get into some laid-back tunes while gazing out at the Bernese Alps.
