Crans-Montana in Switzerland hosts the latest round of the Women's Alpine Skiing World Cup, featuring downhill and combined competitions.
The Alpine World Cup is the most glamorous event in skiing. The competitors travel the world to premier ski resorts, gathering points as they go. There are separate awards for the individual disciplines, but the Holy Grail is the title of Alpine World Cup Overall Champion.
The tournament is divided into the Ladies' and Men's events, often held in different locations. The individual disciplines, for both sexes, are downhill, slalom, giant slalom, super G and combined, ensuring that every attribute of modern skiing technique is thoroughly tested. To win the combined title is the mark of a truly accomplished skier.
