Estival Jazz Lugano is southern Switzerland's premier musical event. Open-air concerts take place in the heart of Lugano, on the beautiful 19th-century Piazza della Riforma and in the nearby town of Mendrisio, on architect Mario Botta's Piazzale alla Valle.

The event attracts thousands of jazz fans each year and all concerts are totally free! Miles Davies, Dizzy Gillespie, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Tito Puente and BB King are just some of the many artists that have appeared at the event since 1979.

In 2008, Mendrisio's concerts are held on 27 & 28 June, while Lugano celebrates from 3-5 July. Highlights of the broad programme include Chicago blues guitar legend Buddy Guy, iconic reggae singer Jimmy Cliff and saxophonist Kenny Garrett's quartet.
