Some boil them, some fry them, but the residents of Berne opt for Egg Bashing. Locals bring brightly-painted Eier to Berne's central Kornhausplatz square and smash them to smithereens in a typically Swiss celebration of Easter egg-centricity.

Akin to a giant conker fight, contestants battle it out for the title of toughest egg. Anyone can take part and participants can bring along their own eggs or buy them there. Mastering your egg-thrashing technique certainly beats munching the chocolate variety hands down...
