Every year since 1922, thousands of cross-country skiers have congregated in the Dalarna region for the traditional Vasaloppet race, 90km from Sälen to Mora.
Vasaloppet is the oldest, the longest, and the biggest cross-country ski race in the world. This unique challenge attracts skiers of all categories from around the world, from the "fun skier" whose only ambition is to reach the finish before 8pm to the elite racer, who competes for the victory purse, prizes and prestige.
Activities and entertainments go on for the week before. If you can't make the real thing, catch it on national TV instead.
