Attracting almost the entire international Match Racing elite, the Swedish Match Cup draws more than 150,000 spectators to the stunning archipelago of Marstrand, looking to soak up the summer sailing party atmosphere.
A match race can be described as a duel between two identically-matched boats. The course resembles an oval shape with the start/finish line close to shore. The boats round the marks two or three times before the winner crosses the finish line. Yachtsmen such as Dean Barker and Russell Coutts have partcipated in this, one of the largest sporting events in Sweden.
The race course lies along the cliffs on the southern shore of Marstrand Island - a natural stadium with the capacity of a Super Bowl arena.
