This annual youth soccer tournament, opening in Gothenburg's Ullevi Stadium, promises a week of action and excitement featuring youth teams from around the world.
The Gothia Cup was first played in 1975 with 275 teams. Since then over 100 countries have been represented and more than 500,000 footballers have participated. So far, Sweden has had the most victories, closely followed by Bolivia.
All clubs which are members of their FIFA-affiliated national associations are welcome to participate. The tournament begins with group play. Teams are divided into groups of four or five, with all playing each other once. Successful teams qualify for further rounds, while those knocked out of the tournament are offered friendly matches against other Gothia Cup teams.
