Stockholm's Dance Museum depicts the history of dance through film, video, costumes, masks, art, posters, books and documents in an impressively imaginative way.
The collection examines performance art from Asia and ritual dance from Africa as well as the interesting period of modernism in Europe from the beginning of the 20th century. Artists like Léger, Picabia, de Chirico, Cocteau, Foujita, Dardel and Nerman are also represented, along with costumes from The Russian Ballet in Paris.
The Folk Dance Archives, affiliated to the museum since 1976, provide academics and others with information about folk dancing and amateur dance. For others who really want to know more, the museum also houses a study centre and the shop offers great books and videos.
