Overlooking the winding road between the Gironan towns of Argelaguer and Olot sits a fabulous Swiss Family Robinson-style creation that unfurls into a four-tier complex of tree ladders, towers and tunnels, known as El Laberinto de Josep (Joseph's Labyrinth).

The labyrinth is the creation of Josep Pujuila, who has spent much of his life building quirky puzzles and conundrums. Solving the puzzle is no easy feat - altogether the matrix of creeper-woven tunnels is over a kilometre long. Unlike other labyrinths you can view others in different parts of the structure - even from above and below - which, contrary to what you might think, does not help. The goal is to head for the ramshackle tower. The first one there can declare himself victor on a three-storey wobbly throne - if they dare.

Once explorers have run the gauntlet of dead ends, deceptive corners and never-ending tunnels, losing themselves time and again, they quickly realise that they need to rely on something more than just eyesight...and don't forget that once you have found your way to the tower you need to remember the way back...
