The Iznájar Fair features all-night parties followed by beautiful processions, where musicians walk the streets singing dawn choruses. When the hour gets a little more sociable, everyone attends a Mass.
Part of the festival pays tribute to the patron saint of La Virgen de la Piedad. Devotees accompany the enthroned Virgin, elegantly seated among candles and flowers, in a procession.
Traditionally, those that wished to repent on this day would carry out their penance by donating kilo blocks of wax to the church. It is not considered so practical or reasonable these days - repenters now adhere to more accepted practices, like placing a sum of money in the collection box or going to confession.
