As with most places in Spain, the celebrations for Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Baena run from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. The highlights for local religious brotherhoods are on the Wednesday and Good Friday.

On the Wednesday of Holy Week two rival religious brotherhoods, los coliblancos and los colinegros, clad in centurion helmets with draping manes, compete in a tambourine "battle".

Friday is even better, as they bring out an effigy of Christ from the church convent amidst an even greater cacophony.
