Every year Cordoba celebrates the first few days of May by decorating its squares and public spaces with floral crosses, known as May Crosses. Countless neighbourhood and religious community groups compete in producing these intricate floral designs.
The crosses become the centre of activity as people gather around them to dance, sing and generally have fun. Some of the best barrios (neighbourhoods) in which to view them are San Augustín, San Basilio and Santa Marina. The best time to go is in the evening, when everything is lit up and the party really gets going.
