During the Festival of the Virgin of Guadalupe in the picturesque Galician seaside town of Rianxo, an image of the Virgin is carried out in a maritime procession, and at midnight bands and locals sing popular songs in the candlelight.
The Virgin is more commonly associated with Mexico as she is their patron saint. The celebrations take place here due to Rianxo's close connections with Mexico and because of the religious fervour of the town's seamen, who have turned the Virgin into an object of true devotion.
