Valencia's Corpus Christi celebrations date back to the 14th century. Today they take the form of a solemn procession when the Blessed Sacrament is carried through the streets, accompanied by priests and local dignitaries.
A slightly more recent tradition is the cabalgata, or parade of horses, along with people dressed up as characters from the Bible. This also takes place at other festivals during the year. Known as cabezudos, these dancing "giant heads" precede the procession.
There are also Eucharistic plays, which date back to the 15th and 16th centuries, which traditionally were performed in the Valencian language.
