One of the city's most important religious festivals, the celebration of Corpus Christi in Seville mixes religious beliefs with cultural traditions.
On the evening before Corpus Christi the streets in the city centre are packed with makeshift altars, people visiting churches and hanging off balconies, specially decorated for the occasion.
The celebration reached its peak here during the 17th and 18th centuries with three main sections: the Holy Procession, the Eucharistic plays and the popular festivities. Today there are still processions and, of course, plenty of celebration.
