During the months of February and March, it's carnival time in Fuerteventura, and there's no better time to visit. Almost every major town hosts its own carnival, each attempting to out-do the rest with noise, colour and pure abandon.
During the carnival a host of sporting events, cultural happenings, musical performances and culinary displays can all be enjoyed. The climax comes with a spectacular procession of colourful floats, fantastically adorned with crazy decorations and costumed dancers. The whole thing usually culminates with a weekend-long party with a funfair, plenty of music and dancing until dawn.
Please contact the tourist office to confirm individual dates in different towns as they can vary quite substantially. The three main carnivals are held in Puerto del Rosario (1-10 February 2008), Corralejo (27 February-9 March) and Morrojable (7-24 February).
