First held in 1953, the Ljubljana Summer Festival is the biggest annual cultural event in Slovenia and brings international performers to the capital for six weeks of feverish artistic activity.
Past visitors have included Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Mstislav Rostropovich, José Carreras, Slide Hampton, Pierre Amoyal, Yuri Bashmet, Mischa Maisky, Shlomo Mintz, Krzysztof Penderecki, Riccardo Muti and Gidon Kremer, let alone some of the world's greatest symphony orchestras, opera and ballet companies. There are now around 50 to 70 separate events every year.
Full details of the 2007 programme are published on the festival website as soon as they are available.
