Every August, Idrija welcomes the annual Lace Festival to the Town Gallery. The event features an exhibition by the students of the Idrija Lace-making School, a lace-making competition (open to children and adults), workshops and various lectures on lace.
Slovenia's traditional lace-making craft was first mastered with seven pairs of bobbins in the 1870s and today Idrija lace is a registered trademark.
