The Europa and World Cup Dog-Sledding Races around Tarvisio welcome more than 1000 dogs and 200 mushers (sleigh drivers) every year, who battle it out on a 22km circuit.
Organised by the Italian Musher and Dog-Sled Federation in cooperation with the International Mushing Sleddog School of Tarvisio and the Slovenian Federation, the races start in Tarvisio and end in Ratece-Kranjska Gora, on the Italian-Slovenian border. The sleds are pulled by an unlimited number of dogs and cross-country skiers pulled by one or two dogs with a small sled (Pulka) or by one dog with no sled (Ski Joring), also race.
