Born in 1997 with the aim of bringing together emerging young artists, the Break 2.4 Festival is held at venues throughout Ljubljana, including Kodeljevo castle, Kapelica Gallery and the botanical garden.
The event acts as a launch pad for talent from the former Yugoslavia, Novosibirsk and Mongolia. In 2000 the age limit of 35 was dropped, enabling the festival to welcome people from all walks of life. During the same year, it also made a turn towards more urban, technologically-supported arts and mixed artistic practices, which are perceived as avant-garde.
Today the event attracts nearly 400 project applications per year and benefits from the presence of world-acclaimed artists and scientists who are willing to establish an innovative dialogue with their not-so-famous counterparts, in the form of lectures, meetings and workshops.
