Stalin's Seven Sisters
When: Daily
Where: Moscow
Built following a special decree of the USSR Council of Ministries in 1947 to forge a uniform town-planning design, these seven high-rise buildings should have been eight, but one was never built. As a monument to the last days of Stalin (who died in 1953), they still stand proud. They comprise the M Lomonosov Moscow State University, the USSR Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade Ministries on Smolenskaya Square, the multi-purpose building on Krasnie Vorota Square (which was then Lermontovskaya Square), two hotels - Leningradskaya and Ukraine, and two apartment blocks - on Vosstania Square and Kotelnicheskaya Embankment.
