First held in 1959 and originally held biennially, the Moscow International Film Festival is one of the major competitive film events in the cinematic year.

Since 1999 held annually, 2008 marks the 30th Festival. Expect special celebrations in addition to the various prizes awarded by an international jury. The main prize is the Golden St George for Best Film, with Silver St Georges awarded for Best Director, Actor and Actress and a Special Jury prize Silver St George amongst the many others.
