With the sound of its blank shot over St Petersburg's Winter Palace on the night of 25 October 1917, the Cruiser Aurora started the Russian Revolution. It can be visited nearby on the River Neva to this very day, where it is maintained by cadets from the Nakhimov Navy School opposite. Visitors can explore aboard and, for a small charge, have a tour of the engine rooms as well.
