The Summer Festival in Vilar de Mouros has been held every year since 1971 (when Elton John and Manfred Mann took the stage) and has continued to attract large crowds to see top international acts.
The programme for 2008 hasn't been finalised yet but past performers have included Joss Stone, Joe Cocker, The Charlatans and Pete Murphy. Many more up-and-coming bands have played too, there is usually a dance tent, which has its biggest party on the Thursday night, but there are other DJs playing sets throughout the festival. If it all gets too much and you want to chill out, you can always just relax by the river.
There is a fully equipped campsite by the festival site, set in the lush grounds of the Vilar de Mouros Natural Park. Tickets can be bought in Portugal at any Multibanco ticket dispenser or in Spain from El Corte Inglés department stores.
