Shanties: Krakow International Sailors' Song Festival
When: 21 - 25 Feb 2008 (annual)
Where: Krakow
Despite its land-locked location, Krakow hosts this international Sailors' Song Festival, also known as Shanties. The event celebrates all kinds of nautical song and poetry, with concerts of sea songs, ballads and shanties at venues throughout the city.

The first ever Shanties festival in 1981 was an intimate affair, with only 100 audience members watching performances in the basement of a local community centre. Today it has grown to be one of the most popular shanty festivals in Europe, with around 40 groups and performers telling tales of sea voyages in venues like the Rotunda Cultural Centre and Korona Hall.

Aside from the music, there are also related events such as cruises, sailing races, nautical exhibitions and more. Please contact the tourist office for more details.
