Krakow's annual Sacrum-Profanum Festival celebrates 19th and 20th-century classical music by composers from a specially selected part of the world. This year, the focus is Germany.
The concerts are performed by top musicians from Poland and further afield. So far in 2008, Frankfurt's Modern Ensemble, the London Sinfonietta, the Theatre of Voices and the Asko Ensemble are scheduled for a concert cycle dedicated to the late Karlheinz Stockhausen, coinciding with 80 years since his birth.
The 2008 venues are yet to be confirmed, but the festival's grand finale has always taken place in the former Tadeusz Sendzimir Steel Mill, a large industrial space located in Krakow's district of Nowa Huta. Last year there were also concerts at the city's grand Philharmonic Hall and the former Emalia Factory.
Please visit the Sacrum-Profanum Festival website for the latest details of the programme.
