During Photomonth, Krakow's galleries, cafes, privately-owned flats and industrial spaces are filled with snapshots by renowned artists. With over 40 exhibitions and a parallel programme of films, workshops and artist meet-and-greets, this is one of Poland's biggest photography festivals.

As ever, the festival is divided into two parts. The first focuses on a theme, which in 2008 is "Youth". Artists providing their own spin on this topic include Karen Brett, Lauren Greenfield, Glen E Friedman and Michael Jang. The festival also spills out into the streets of Krakow, with a hotly-anticipated site-based project from street artist JR (France's answer to Banksy).

The second part of the festival selects a special guest country to present a selection of exhibitions, which, for this year, is Poland. Featured exhibitions include Polish Photography of the 20th Century, Polish Venus 2008 and A Multimedia Anthology of Polish Photography after 2000.

As well as the main festival, 20 extra displays form the OFF Festival, where young or novice photographers exhibit works in pubs, cafes and galleries across the city.
