The three separate buildings of the Bergen Art Museum in the centre of Bergen house one of Scandinavia's largest and most important art collections, spanning from the Renaissance to modern times.

The Lysverket building of the Bergen Art Museum takes the story of art from its 15th-century Greek and Russian icons up to the present day, while the Rasmus Meyer Collection concentrates on 18th and 19th-century Norwegian art, including many paintings by Edvard Munch. The Stenersen Collection includes some Munches and other 20th-century masters, while the building named after him is used for major temporary exhibitions.
